In early 2008, Gordon Cormack earned the Certified Green Professional (CGP) designation from The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB). Achieving this designation requires completing a 16-hour “Green Building for Professionals” class, eight hours of business management instruction and a minimum of two years of industry experience. Designees also must adhere to a prescribed code of ethics. This CGP designation is the most recent of Gordon’s other NAHB designations as a Certified Master Builder (CMB) and Graduate Master Remodeler (GMR).
In 2009, John LaBreck and Suzanne Edwards earned their LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP) designations from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED APs are building industry professionals who have demonstrated a thorough understanding of green building and the LEED Green Building Rating System. This credential indicates that they have the knowledge and skills to facilitate the LEED certification process.
Cormack is finding that clients — both new home buyers and home owners interested in remodeling projects — are much more concerned about energy efficiency and utility bills than ever before. Interest in exploring the use of sustainable building materials is also driving people toward using green building techniques.
At Cormack, we’ve been incorporating green ideas and technologies to our designs and building practices for several years even without a client’s request. We use the highest quality materials allowable in a client’s budget for windows, heating and cooling, roofing and siding as well as lighting and electronics. And, we always recommend Energy Star® rated appliances.
Cormack is proud to be a responsible citizen of Planet Earth and will continue to explore every option for furthering their education in this vital area.
